Amazon Is Holding My Life-Saving Business Hostage. I’m Not Alone.

My name is Marcus Sassan, and for the past 3 year, my company, LIFE ID, has been in a digital graveyard for 3 years. Our Amazon Seller account is suspended, our inventory is locked, and our ability to reach customers is gone.

The official reason? “Platform Manipulation.”

The real reason? A Kafkaesque nightmare of automated systems, unresponsive appeals, and a fundamental misunderstanding of a business whose core mission is to save lives.

LIFE ID isn’t just another e-commerce brand. We create medical alert bracelets with QR codes that give first responders instant access to a person’s critical medical information in an emergency. We didn’t set out to game a system; we set out to protect the vulnerable.

Yet, here we are, pleading with a multi-trillion dollar corporation for a fair hearing.

Where We Went Wrong (According to Amazon)

In my desperate attempts to understand the suspension, I’ve had to become a detective in my own case. I believe Amazon’s algorithms flagged us for three reasons, all born from a desire to provide excellent service, not to manipulate:

  1. We Provided Customer Support. We included our support email and registration website in some buyer messages. Why? Because our customers need to register their bracelet on our secure site to input their medical details. This wasn’t an attempt to divert sales; it was essential for the product to function and save lives.

  2. Our Packaging Had a QR Code. Our product is a QR code. I understand Amazon’s wariness, as many sellers use them for illicit review incentives. Ours was purely functional—it links to a life-saving profile. To comply, we’ve even made the external packaging codes inert, blurring them or having them lead to a 404 page.

  3. We Used a Review Solicitation Service. We used Salesbacker, a compliant, well-known service that sends automated messages asking for reviews without incentives. Believing this was within policy, we used it. We have since severed all ties.

We have addressed every single one of these perceived violations. We’ve rewritten our processes, altered our packaging, and cut ties with third-party services. We have submitted detailed appeals, plans of action, and evidence.

The Real Problem: The Stonewall

Our appeals are met with canned, automated responses. Our detailed plans of action are rejected without specific feedback. We reached out to Executive Seller Relations. Silence.

We are now being instructed to email a senior executive, Dharmesh Mehta, as a last resort, with the subject line: “Lives are in the Balance.” It should not have to come to this.

This isn’t just about Life ID. This is happening to thousands of small businesses every day. Entrepreneurs who have invested their life savings, their time, and their passion into building a brand on Amazon’s platform are being wiped out by opaque algorithms and an appeal process that feels designed to make you give up.

We are not faceless merchants trying to scam the system. We are artisans, innovators, and in our case, a company trying to do genuine good in the world. When Amazon pulls the rug out from under us without a true human review, they aren’t just destroying a business—they’re destroying livelihoods, dreams, and in our most extreme case, potentially impacting a product designed for emergency situations.

A Call for Clarity and Humanity

I am sharing this story not just to save my own business, but to add my voice to the chorus of small business owners calling for change.

Amazon, you have built an incredible platform that has enabled so much entrepreneurship. But with great power comes great responsibility. We need:

  • Transparency: Clear, specific communication about policy violations.

  • Dialogue: A real appeals process that involves human beings who can understand context and intent.

  • Proportionality: A system that distinguishes between bad actors and good-faith sellers who make innocent mistakes.

My business, my team’s livelihoods, and the continuity of a product meant to protect people, now hang in the balance of an unresponsive system.

I am asking for your help. Please like, comment, and share this post to give it visibility. Sometimes, the court of public opinion is the only appeal left for the little guy.

If you have experience, connections, or advice, I would be deeply grateful to hear from you.
